School Counselors:
Ms. Tonia Grant (Class of 2015 and Class of 2011): Tonia Grant has worked as a Secondary School Counselor in Hartford for the past five years. Born and raised in Hartford, she atttended the Hartford Public Schools until 2nd Grade and then was chosen for the Project Concern program and continued her education in West Hartford. Unsure of what major she would declare in college, Tonia knew she wanted to work with kids. She originally majored in Daycare Management, but was overwhelmed! After a trying summer, Tonia changed her major to Elementary Education, but still hadn't found her niche. After much soul searching and reflection with her own high school counselor; she knew that becoming a School Counselor was the perfect fit. Tonia truly enjoys working with young people to empower them to be their best. A kid at heart herself, she relates easily to young people. She is a mentor and an occasional tutor as well! In her free time Tonia loves to travel, especially to Jamaica where she has been over 10 times! She is an avid reader and loves to sing and dance.
Tonia holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Lasell College, an M.S. in School Counseling and a Sixth Year Certificate in Counseling, both from the University of Hartford.
Ms. Susannah McGlamery (Class of 2012 and Recruitment Coordinator): Susannah McGlamery has worked with youth in various capacities for many years. She has worked as a counselor and program coordinator with the Y.M.C.A. and Salvation Army in Hartford, as a Special Education Teacher in Baltimore and Severna Park, MD and as a counselor/tutor in Harlem, NY. Because Susannah loves working with students, particularly by supporting and advocating for them as they grow into themselves, she completed her graduate work at NYU in Counseling. In 2004, Susannah moved back to her beloved hometown of Hartford, CT and found a home at Classical as a School Counselor. She is an active member of the Classical community, however when she's not at school, Susannah loves to go anywhere her passport can take her! She also loves to spend time with her family and friends, read, and make cool little pieces of art for the people that she loves.
Susannah holds a B.A. in Urban Studies in Education from the University of Connecticut and an M.A. in School Counseling from New York University.
Mrs. Rachel Stair (Class of 2013 and Class of 2009): Born and raised in Meriden, CT, Rachel Stair has been a School Counselor at Classical Magnet School for 3 years. Prior to her working as a School Counselor, Rachel was a classroom teacher for 4 years in Oregon. She taught in a middle school special needs classroom both in Portland and Turner, Oregon. These experiences helped to guide the move into school counseling all the while focusing on being an advocate for students. Rachel began her school counseling career in the capital of Oregon, Salem. She worked in a middle school there for 2 years before moving back to her home state of Connecticut. Classical Magnet has become her home and she enjoys having the opportunity to work with all of her students and watching them grow during their time here.Rachel also is an avid traveler and has visited over 15 different countries. She likes to read, knit, camp with her family and collect turtles.
Rachel holds a BS in Human Development/Elementary & Special Education from Wheelock College in Boston, MA and a MS in Counselor Education from Portland State University in Portland, OR.
Mrs. Madeline Tolson (Class of 2014 and Class of 2010): Madeline Tolson graduated from the original Classical Magnet Program at Hartford Public High School in 1992. She discovered her love for working with children while working with middle school students at the University of Connecticut and with the America Reads Program at New York University. Madeline worked as a School Counselor at CES/CIS 218 in Bronx, NY for three years before deciding to transfer to a high school. She worked at the High School for Health Careers in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan for half a school year before moving back home to Hartford, CT to begin a family. She now has a 4 year old son, a 2year old daughter and a brand new baby girl. Madeline is very honored to be part of Classical Magnet once again and hopes to spend many years working with Classical students and helping them achieve their goals.
SOCIAL WORK:
Mr. John Nagy: Mr. Nagy graduated from Simsbury High School in 1968, playing soccer and studying Latin and French. He then attended Holy Cross College and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor’s Degree in French. In 1984 he obtained his Master’s of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work, where he also studied Spanish. After graduating from Uconn he started work in the Hartford School System where he has been employed for the past twenty three years as a school social worker.
